Great Earthquake
I believe the following accounts run parallel and transpire approximately in the same time frame: At the presence
(Jer 4:23-26;
Nahum 1:5-7) of the Lord
(Psa 114:1-8) GOD
(Ezek 38:18-20); when the LORD's feet stand
(Job 19:25) on the Mount
(Rev 14:1-5) of Olives
(Zec 14:3-5); when the Lamb opened the sixth seal
(Rev 6:12-14); when the two witnesses resurrect and ascend up to heaven in a cloud
(Rev 11:11-13); and when the great city Babylon was divided into three parts and the cities
(Jer 4:26) of the nations fell
(Rev 16:18-19).
Because in the scripture detail of each there's a great (shaking) earthquake, except for one, which is implied.
Jesus said there will be great earthquakes in various places
(Luke 21:11).
1) Will Shake (Quake) at My Presence
(Ezek 38:18-20)
(Ezek 38:18-20 KJV) "And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the
Lord
GOD, that my
fury shall come up in my face.
{19} For in my jealousy and in the
fire of my
wrath have I
spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a
great
shaking in the land of Israel;
{20} So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the
face of the earth, shall
shake at my
presence [paniym: H6440], and the mountains shall be
thrown
down, and the steep places shall
fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground."
The Day of the LORD
(1 Th 5:1-5) will be great and very terrible
(Joel 2:1-11), dreadful
(Mal 4:5). In
Ezekiel 38:18-20, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,
the Lord GOD's fury will come up in His face. In His jealousy and in the fire of His wrath the Lord GOD has spoken (declared).
Surely in that Day there will be a great shaking (earthquake) in the land of Israel... Everything will shake (quake) at His presence.
Not only will the earth
(Isa 2:19-22;
Rev 16:18-21) and everything on it (all will) shake (quake) and move, except for the Lord's heavenly
(2 Tim 4:18) kingdom and the City of God
(Psa 46:1-7), at the presence
(Jer 4:23-26;
Nahum 1:5-7) of the Lord
(Psa 114:1-8) GOD
(Ezek 38:18-20), but also the heaven
(Heb 12:25-29 1). The heavens will shake and the
earth will "reel to and fro like a drunkard..."
(Isa 24:19-23 KJV). The LORD will shake the heavens, and the earth will
"remove out of her place, in the
wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his
fierce
anger"
(Isa 13:13 KJV).
2) Mount of Olives Will Cleave in the Midst
(Zec 14:3-5)
(Zec 14:3-5 KJV) "Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
{4} And his
feet shall
stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall
cleave in the
midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall
remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
{5} And ye shall
flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall
flee, like as ye
fled from before the
earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the
LORD my
God shall come, and all the saints with thee."
In
Zechariah 14:3-5, it says that when the LORD's feet stand
(Job 19:25) on the Mount
(Rev 14:1-5) of Olives that it will cleave in the midst. That which occurs before the Mount of Olives cleaves in the
midst will be a great earthquake, worse than the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah
(Amos 1:1), because the entire earth will shake
(Hag 2:6-7).
Note: The mountains and islands
(Rev 16:20) will move out of their places
(Rev 6:14).
(Isa 54:10 KJV) "For the mountains shall
depart, and the hills be
removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee."
In the day the Lord
(Joel 3:12-17) Jesus Christ
(Rev 1:7) appears the second time
(Heb 9:28), the LORD's feet will stand
(Job 19:25) on the Mount (Zion,
Rev 14:1-5) of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east, and it will (cleave in the midst) split in two, toward the east and toward the west, making a very great valley with half of the mountain moving toward the north and half of it toward the south...
(Zec 14:3-5).
(Zec 14:8 KJV) "And it shall be in that day, that
living
waters shall
go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the
former sea, and half of them toward the
hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be."
In that Day living waters will go out (flow) from Jerusalem, half of them toward the former (eastern) sea and
half of them toward the hinder (western) sea...
(Zec 14:8).
(Joel 3:18 KJV) "And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new
[sweet] wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the
rivers of Judah shall
flow with
waters, and a
fountain shall
come
forth of the house of the LORD, and shall
water the valley of
Shittim."
A fountain will come forth (flow eastward) from the house
(Ezek 47:1-11) of the LORD and will water the valley of (Acacias) Shittim
(Joel 3:18), which is "east of the Jordan."
A pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, will proceed (flow) out of
the (glorious) throne of God and of the Lamb
(Rev 22:1), from where the living
(Jer 2:13;
17:13) fountains (wells) of waters
(Rev 7:16-17) with all the everlasting life giving qualities
originate, freely
(Isa 55:1-3) given to anyone who thirsts
(Rev 21:6;
22:17). Wherever the rivers (waters) flow, the waters will be healed and everything will live
(Ezek 47:6-12).
3) Sixth Seal...a Great Earthquake
(Rev 6:12-14)
(Rev 6:12-14 KJV) "And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a
great
earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
2 {13} And the stars of heaven
fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her
untimely
figs, when she is
shaken of a mighty wind. {14} And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together;
3 and every mountain and island were
moved out of their places."
4
In
Revelation 6:12-14, John said that when the sixth seal was opened,
there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood
(Acts 2:20),
"And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together..."
(Rev 6:12-14 KJV), which is in part similar to
Isaiah 34:4, when the powers of the heavens will be shaken
(Mat 24:29-30), in the great day of the wrath of the Lamb
(Rev 6:15-17), in the day the Lord
(Isa 13:6-13) Jesus Christ
(Rev 1:7) appears
(Heb 9:28), coming
(Joel 2:10-11) in a cloud (of heaven) with power and great glory
(Luke 21:25-28).
(Isa 34:4 KJV)
"And
all the
host of heaven shall be
dissolved, and the heavens shall be
rolled together as a
scroll: and
all their
host shall
fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a
falling
fig from the
fig tree."
(Mat 24:29-30 KJV)
"Immediately
after the
tribulation of those days shall the sun be
darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall
fall from heaven, and the
powers of the heavens shall be
shaken: And then shall
appear the
sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man
coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."
4) Ascended Up to Heaven...a Great Earthquake
(Rev 11:11-13)
(Rev 11:11-13 KJV) "And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
{12} And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them,
Come up hither. And they
ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. {13} And the
same
hour was there a
great
earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the
earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven."
In
Rev 11:11-13, when the two witnesses resurrect and ascend up to heaven in a cloud, which I believe will be the time when the body of Christ and Saints arise
(Isa 26:19), in which the dead in Christ rise first, and caught up together in the clouds
(1 Th 4:16-17), a
great earthquake will occur.
Take into consideration that an earthquake can shake part of the earth, but at this particular time the entire earth will shake
(Hag 2:6-7). If you recall from the account when Jesus rose from the grave, there was a great earthquake
(Mat 28:1-7). It will be the same when the body of Christ and Saints arise.
In the same hour there was a great earthquake and a tenth part of the (great) city fell, where our Lord was crucified, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt
(Rev 11:8), and perhaps where the Dome of the Rock is located
(Dan 11:45), and in the earthquake seven thousand men were slain...
(Rev 11:11-13).
5) A Great Earthquake...Great City Divided
(Rev 16:18-21)
(Rev 16:18-21 KJV) "And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a
great
earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. {19} And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. {20} And every island
fled away, and the mountains were not
found.
4 {21} And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great."
Lastly, in
Revelation 16:17-19, after the seventh angel poured out his vial (of the wrath of God) into the air... and it says, "It is done," there's an account of a
great earthquake... so mighty and great that the great city Babylon was divided into three parts and the cities
(Jer 4:26) of the nations fell, "and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath."
(Jer 4:26 KJV) "...all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger."
"And
every island
fled away, and the mountains were not
found"
(Rev 16:20 KJV); "...and
every mountain and island were
moved out of their
places"
(Rev 6:14 KJV); in the land of Israel, all "...shall shake at my [Lord GOD's] presence, and the mountains shall be
thrown
down, and the steep places shall
fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground"
(Ezek 38:20 KJV); "...and half of the mountain [of Olives] shall
remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south..."
(Zec 14:4-5 KJV); "For the mountains shall
depart, and the hills be
removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee..."
(Isa 54:10 KJV); "...God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the mountains be
carried into the midst of the sea...though the mountains shake..."
(Psa 46:1-3 KJV).
You perhaps see the purpose for everything on the earth shake (quake) and move in the Day of the Lord
(1 Th 5:1-5) Jesus Christ
(1 Cor 1:8)
It is going to be a wonderful spectacle to see some ways the Lord God is altering the earth and the land of Israel to make room for His kingdom and the Holy City of God
(Psa 46:1-7), New Jerusalem
(Rev 21:1-2), which is a fifteen hundred mile cube
(Rev 21:16), and for its inhabitants
(Isa 49:19-20).
Conclusion:
The heavens, the earth
(Joel 2:10-11;
3:15-16) and everything on it (all) will (quake) shake
(Hag 2:6-7 1) and move, except for the Lord's heavenly
(2 Tim 4:18) kingdom
(Heb 12:25-29) and the City of God
(Psa 46:1-7), at the presence
(Jer 4:23-26;
Nahum 1:5-7) of the Lord
(Psa 114:1-8) GOD
(Ezek 38:18-20), in His wrath
(Jer 10:10) and in the day of His fierce anger
(Isa 13:13).
With the aid of the great earthquake cited and other related passages in previous five accounts, it should be clear to what is going to happen and more of the chronological order of some events that encompass the
Second Coming (of our Lord), which is next study.
Note: It will come to pass that every one left of all the nations who came against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts
(Isa 27:13), and to keep the feast of tabernacles. And whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, on them there will be no rain
(Zec 14:16-17).
...The LORD will judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off. They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up a sword against nation, neither will they learn war any more
(Isa 2:2-5). Everyone will sit under his vine and under his fig tree, and none will make them afraid...
(Micah 4:1-5).
"...Of the increase of his
government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever..."
(Isa 9:6-7 KJV).
After a enormous amount of things are burned
(Mal 4:1) and destroyed (which includes sinners and wicked), altered
(Psa 46:1-11) and become unusable during the Tribulation and judgments, which includes plant life, the waters, the (land) earth and the works in it, nations and their powers, cities and what they entail; I believe earth's inhabitants, every one left of all the nations, will be turning to agriculture and living off the increase
(Psa 67:1-7) and fruit of the (earth) land
(Deu 7:11-15), fruit of the trees
(Lev 26:2-4;
Ezek 34:26-27), and depending on the Lord God
(Ezek 47:6-12) instead of local, state and world governments.
