You must realize that you are a sinner by nature.

"What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:" (Rom 3:9-13 KJV)

"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Rom 5:12 KJV)

"But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away." (Isa 64:6 KJV)

"...except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3 KJV)

Because of sin, man was separated from God. If you do not sense God's presence, it might be because you are one who is still separated and lost. There had to be someone who was perfect without sin to become our mediator, so we could again have fellowship with a Holy and Just God. We are bound for an eternal hell (separated from God) for our sin. God is Just when it comes to sin, but He is also merciful, loving, kind and compassionate, which can be seen in God's Only Begotten Son, and He has given us a way of escape and a substitute for the consequences for our sin. The way is through someone who loves you more than anything in the world, who has already died, has experienced the pains of hell for you and has risen from the grave, and now at the right hand of God. He is the One an only Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.

"For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Rom 5:7-8 KJV)

You will physically die because of your sin, yet you can still have the gift of eternal life.

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Rom 6:23 KJV)

Through a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, you can experience a peace and love with God beyond human reasoning. You have to believe with your heart that He is who the scripture say He is and confess Him with your mouth. You may not understand it all. Just let the love and power of God help you to initiate that first step.

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, ¹ and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation... For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." ² (Rom 10:9-10, 13 KJV)

Please get on your knees and pray to the Heavenly Father, asking Jesus to forgive you of your sin (you have to believe that you are a sinner) and receive him into your life as Lord and Savior. If you truly mean business with God, He will give you His Holy Spirit and seal you until the day of redemption. Becoming a Christian and a member of God's family is the greatest and most important thing that will ever happen to you in this life. This doesn't mean you will no longer have temptations to sin and troubles, but it does mean you will have someone who will go with you who understands what your are going through. Get into the New Testament and read, begin with 1 John, committing as much scripture to heart as you are able. Find a Bible believing church, which is very essential even if it is at someone's home, so you can grow in right relationship with God and with fellow believers. Get baptized.
