Dear Fellow Patriot,

My name is Shane Osborn and I need your help and prayers once again – but this time in my race for U.S. Senate! My friend, I said "once again" for a reason...

... You see, on April 1, 2001, the Chinese Communists crashed a fighter jet into my Navy reconnaissance plane over international waters and nearly killed my entire crew of 23.

President George W. Bush had been sworn into office for less than three months and millions of patriotic Americans like you prayed for my safe release and that of my entire crew.

With extensive damage to my aircraft, including loss of an engine, nose, all airspeed and altitude information, and structural damages to multiple control surfaces, I managed to pull out of a deadly inverted dive and safely landed my EP-3 Electronic Warfare Aircraft on the nearest airstrip.

Sadly, it was an airstrip on a remote Chinese Island! Unfortunately, that was only the beginning of our ordeal.

For 12 long days the Chinese Communists held me captive, vigorously interrogated me and repeatedly threatened my life and the lives of my crew. But I didn't break.

In the end, it was the Chinese who broke. They set us free and returned our plane. (And their fighter pilot? Presumed dead. Yeah.)

On May 18, 2001, my crew and I were greeted by President Bush in the White House and later received the Distinguished Flying Cross. After returning home, I ran for Treasurer of Nebraska and won.

My friend, I know I'm here today because millions of patriotic Americans like you rallied around our crew with prayer and support during this tense crisis.

Now, with President Obama plunging our nation into a self-made crisis of unsustainable federal spending, endless debt, record unemployment, ObamaCare, and more, I'm eager to repay the kindness shown to me by answering freedom's call once again.

That's why I'm running for Nebraska's open U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Republican Senator Mike Johanns. I have the experience, leadership, and tough-as-nails conservative backbone needed to hold this seat and do my part to help the GOP retake the Senate in 2014.

But just like military engagements, political campaigns aren't won or lost on the shoulders of one man alone. I'm reaching out to battle-tested conservative activists in Nebraska and across the nation to enlist your support.

During the last election cycle, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) and their allies caught the GOP off-guard by heavily investing in "safe" red state contests. The DSCC's efforts paid off in shocking upsets across the country, most notably in Montana and North Dakota -- states similar to Nebraska that Mitt Romney won by double digits!

My friend, if you think my distinguished military service will keep the poisonous attacks that undid the GOP in 2012 from showing up in our race, think again...

...It didn't stop the Obama-Democrats from launching $2 Million worth of highly offensive attack ads to defeat decorated Army veteran Lt. Colonel Allen West in 2012 and it won't stop them from pulling out all the stops against me now!

But just like the Chinese Communists discovered on that remote island back in 2001, I'm not easily deterred and I'll never break. Growing up in a single parent household, my entire life has been defined by facing and rising above incredible challenges.

My mother taught me the value of hard work and commitment to family at an early age by working three jobs to support my sister and me rather than depending on government handouts. Eventually, I saw her determination pay off when she became Director of Nursing for the Norfolk Veterans Home.

Inspired by their service, after graduating high school I was blessed to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on an ROTC scholarship. Here, I earned a degree in math and statistics before entering the Navy to fulfill my lifelong dream to be a pilot.

Just months after being captured by Chinese Communists, I extended my service to help our nation fight back after 9/11 by flying combat missions in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

After nine years serving our country, I returned to Nebraska where I was elected as State Treasurer in 2007. Under my leadership, we trimmed our office budget by 12% and put the Nebraska state budget online for the first time in an effort to cut spending and increase accountability.

Today, with the full-hearted support of my loving wife Stacie and our four children, I'm fighting to put my results-driven leadership to work for you in the United States Senate.

If you help guide our insurgent conservative campaign to victory next November, I will immediately go to work to:

Lend my voice and vote to the effort to stop ObamaCare. Already, this dramatic example of federal government overreach has cost thousands of jobs, added Billions to our $17 Trillion debt, and caused health insurance premiums to soar. It must be repealed.

Advocate for Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution to force the federal government to live within its means.

Lower tax rates across the board and encourage private sector innovation and job creation.

Curb excessive government regulations that are crippling small business development and hurting millions of Middle Class Americans -- especially family farms.

Stand up for our military veterans. As a Navy pilot for nine years, I know the challenges confronting veterans and their families firsthand. In fact, I helped launch a company that hires disabled veterans.

My friend, I've stood up to the Chinese Communists. I've helped fight Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. Now, as I prepare to stand against the rising tide of Obama-Democrat liberalism in Washington, D.C., I'm reaching out to ask for your help.
