Repealing/Kill the Death Tax

From the Desk of...

Pat Boone

8:42 AM

Dear Fellow Patriot,

[1-2014 letter] If I'm right, we share a common goal -- abolishing the "Death Tax." And If I'm right, I'm asking you to please join me by adding your signature to mine on the enclosed Pledge to Kill the Death Tax. I'll tell you more about that in a moment. First, let me re-introduce myself.

Yes, I'm that Pat Boone, the "Love Letters in the Sand" guy, still singing at concerts, but I'm also very concerned for the future of our great country. So much so I decided a long time ago to get off the sidelines and get actively involved.

Today I'm writing you as national spokesperson for the 60 Plus Foundation, an organization in Washington committed to repealing, once and for all, the unfair Death Tax.

I am penning this letter to you to ask you to take two extraordinary steps . . .

1)  Add your name to mine on the enclosed Pledge to Kill the Death Tax, and,

2)  Consider making a 2014 CHARTER GIFT to support the brand new 60 PLUS FOUNDATION, a fully tax-deductible 501(c) 3 organization that is committed, first and foremost, to absolutely killing the despised Death Tax.

You see, despite the political challenges we face, I feel very sure we are extremely close to finally repealing the Death Tax. That's because tax reform is now the centerpiece of negotiations between the Congress and White House to get the stagnant economy moving again.

Yet, Democrats and Republicans have differing opinions on tax policy. Liberals believe raising taxes helps the economy, and conservatives believe new and higher  taxes hurt the economy.

  What this means is we Americans must take the lead role and explain to both political parties the tremendous negative impact the Death Tax has on job creation, investment, entrepreneurship, savings and incentive.

  We must also remind Congress and the President that the Death Tax was first imposed as a "temporary" tax to help fund World War I. The last time I checked, that War was over!

I truly believe that if we don't do this at the 60 Plus Foundation, no one else will. Our challenge is to build a national coalition of Americans opposed to the Death Tax, and in order to do so, we must increase our grassroots outreach and educational efforts to every American in every corner of the country.

But a program like this is not inexpensive. However, if successful, we will have made one of the biggest economic contributions to the future of our great country.

THE NEW 60 PLUS FOUNDATION

It was back in 1992 that my friend Jim Martin started the 60 Plus Association, a legislative and lobbying organization. 60 Plus was truly the first national force behind the drive to abolish the estate tax. Back then Jim began calling on Congress to "Kill the Death Tax," a phrase Jim coined that has successfully described the unfair estate tax.

Thanks to Jim Martin's efforts, many thousands of Americans were spared from the cruelest of all taxes for the last 10 years. That's because Jim was instrumental in seeing that the repeal of the Death Tax was included in the George W. Bush Tax Cut Package of 2002.

In fact, because of his work, President George W. Bush said, "I'm especially grateful for [Jim Martin's] leadership in the 60 Plus Association. He deserves particular credit for leading the movement to repeal the death tax."

Not only is Jim a dedicated and proud former Marine veteran, he is also a mastermind of grass-roots politics and coalition building, and he advises that the #1 way we're going to get the tax repealed is by expanding the base of those who favor outright repeal -- and the #1 way to do that is through a massive national education campaign to every single American.

  That's why it is my fervent prayer that you will consider making a generous tax-deductible gift today... to help me launch THE 60 PLUS FOUNDATION.

I know that may be a lot to ask. But if you can afford to give $25, $35, even $50 - please remember the widow's mite - she who had the least gave the most - and we will be grateful no matter what you can give. What matters the most is that you give something!

Your gift will help us lay the groundwork for our national educational campaign to Kill the Death Tax - a "temporary" tax imposed in the lead up to World War I. So, if you are able to do so, please let the Foundation hear from you today...

THE NEW 60 PLUS FOUNDATION IS CRITICAL

THE 60 PLUS FOUNDATION was created because, first and foremost, we must eliminate the Federal Estate and Gift Tax, or the Death Tax, right now. Sadly, the large majority of Americans have no idea what this means for their wallets, their family business, their retirement or their children and grandchildren's inheritance!

The goals of THE 60 PLUS FOUNDATION are to . . .

  Publish a series of policy papers that under-gird our case for permanent and total repeal of the Death Tax, our #1 priority;

  Conduct public opinion survey polls and hold tele-Town-Hall meetings updating friends on the status of bills and what action steps are necessary and pending;

  Educate Seniors and small business leaders using new technology, such as social media, WebPages, and traditional print media;

  Build a national coalition of citizens opposed to the Death Tax; and,

  Identify and recruit Senior Americans, farmers, small businesses and entrepreneurs to join our cause.

Advertising mediums such as television, newspapers, websites, and social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter will represent some of the new avenues of communication THE 60 PLUS FOUNDATION will use in order to disseminate our positions, our policy papers, our newsletters, our polls, and surveys to concerned family businesses, entrepreneurs, farmers and Senior Americans.

As you can see these are ambitious goals. But I am convinced we must do everything we can to save this country and our hard-earned money from disappearing.

But the only way THE 60 PLUS FOUNDATION will be successful is if everyone who receives this letter signs the Pledge to Kill the Death Tax and makes a tax-deductible contribution. Some who receive this letter are blessed to be in a position send $1,000, or even $500. Others can give $100, $50 or even $35.

Let me put it this way: granted, you may feel reluctant to cough up some hard earned cash right now, voluntarily - but please look ahead and imagine how you'll feel when Big Spending Big Brother reaches in and grabs half your life savings (or estate) against your will? That's the death tax.

I firmly believe it is up to America's Seniors, those of us who believe in and remember the core principles that made this country great: freedom, opportunity, responsibility and hard work, to save this country.

With your signature on the Pledge to Kill the Death Tax, THE 60 PLUS FOUNDATION will begin to build a national grassroots network of family owned businesses, Senior Americans, farmers and others devoted to killing the Death Tax and saving our country from financial ruin.

Joining THE 60 PLUS FOUNDATION represents a strike against the "Death Tax," a strike against Big Government and a strike against Leftist organizations like the AARP who are leading our country down the road to serfdom.

And with your reply, I hope I can count on you to join The 60 Plus Foundation as a Charter Member by making a tax-deductible contribution of $1,000, $500, $100, or even $50 today. Whatever amount you send is crucial to repealing this onerous tax. What this amounts to is taking out insurance - against certain theft - by our own government!

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter to you. Please take a moment and read the enclosed note from the 60 Plus Association's friend, President George W. Bush. May God bless you and may God bless the United States of America.

Sincerely,

Pat Boone, National Spokesperson

THE 60 PLUS FOUNDATION.

P.S. The outcome of our campaign will help determine the direction America takes in the years ahead and what kind of country we will leave to our children and grandchildren. Please accept your call to lead America by joining THE 60 PLUS FOUNDATION today and signing the [requested] enclosed Pledge to Kill the Death Tax - a "temporary" tax imposed in 1916 at the advent of World War I (60 Plus Foundation, 515 King Street, Suite 315B,  Alexandria, VA 22314)!

The following is an excerpt from a video tribute from President George W. Bush honoring his friend Jim Martin. Jim was instrumental in hiring George W Bush in 1968 to work in the successful US Senate campaign of Edward J. Gurney.

I first met Jim more than 40 years ago on the Ed Gurney Senate campaign in Florida. Jim was a Marine and a seasoned political veteran. I was a 22 year-old recent college graduate working as a body man and press assistant. I've always been grateful to Jim for taking a chance on me and for showing me the ropes of a campaign.

Somewhere along the way, I gave Jim a nickname, Buddha. I chose it because he enlightened me so much and because his figure was a little fuller in those days. A few things have changed over the years. Jim now swims a mile a day and plays senior Olympics basketball. He and Marylou have seven children and 15 grandchildren to occupy their time. I managed to climb a few rungs up the political ladder since the Gurney campaign. Through it all, Jim has been a loyal friend, a man of character and resolve.

I'm especially grateful for his leadership in the 60 Plus Association. He and - with help from national spokesman, Pat Boone and new President Amy Frederick, I am confident 60 Plus will continue standing up for America's seniors.

A few weeks before I left office, Jim and Marylou were at the White House Christmas party. I remember telling Laura that no one had been more loyal to me than Jim Martin. Buddha, I'm proud to know you. I'm grateful for your mentorship and support and I'll always call you friend. May God Bless You.
